When you arrive at JR Otaru Station, you may want to go sightseeing at Otaru Canal or Otaru Aquarium.
If you have heavy luggage, your sightseeing will be tiring.
It is recommended to leave your heavy baggage at the station and go sightseeing with a light baggage.
We have actually seen where the coin lockers are located when we visited Otaru Station, and we will introduce them in detail with pictures on this page.
There are two coin locker locations at JR Otaru Station.
JR Otaru Station had two locations for coin lockers, one inside the building and the other outside.
Both locations are within a minute or two walk from the ticket gate, so it is easy to leave your luggage.

Coin-operated lockers at Otaru Station can be used for up to 72 hours.
Fees are charged every 24 hours.
Coin Lockers at JR Otaru Station
First, coin lockers are located at the far left side of the JR Otaru Station ticket gate.

This coin-operated locker was crowded with people depositing their items, probably because it was located in the station and close to the ticket gate.

There were three types of coin lockers: keyless coin lockers compatible with Kitaca, coin lockers with keys compatible with Kitaca, and coin lockers with 100-yen coins.

Not only Kitaca, but also Suica and PASMO are supported, so you can also pay with IC cards other than Kitaca.
The IC cards that are supported are as follows.

 - Hayakaken
 - SUGOCA
 - nimoca
 
In addition to Kitaca, you can conveniently use other transportation system IC cards from various regions.
This eliminates the need to exchange money, and since you simply hold up the IC card used for payment instead of a key, you don’t have to carry it around with you.
The number of keyless coin lockers was smaller than that of coin lockers with keys.
The sizes, number of installations, and prices of keyless lockers are as follows.

It can exchange 500 yen coins and 1,000 yen bills.

The 600 yen and 700 yen coin lockers were large enough to hold suitcases.
The coin lockers can be used from the first train to the last train.
Please note that coin lockers can be used for three days, including the day of start of use, and the same fee is charged for each additional 24 hours.

The other location is the coin locker on the right side of the JR Otaru Station premises.

▼ There were many empty lockers compared to the coin operated lockers in JR Otaru station.

It is located less than a minute away from the ticket gate, so it is a good place to hole up when you want to leave your luggage at leisure!
It is easy to use as long as it is not during Obon, Golden Week, or the busy tourist season.

The hours here are fixed and are from 7:30 to 22:00.
There are no exchange machines right next to the restaurant, so if you do not have coins, it is recommended to exchange them in advance.

There are a few coin lockers in the waiting room of the bus stop.

There were coin lockers that are compatible with traffic IC cards and coin lockers for cash only.
A 600 yen coin locker would hold a suitcase.
Coin lockers are also available at Nagasakiya
Nagasakiya is located after crossing a large intersection just outside Otaru Station.
There are several coin lockers at Nagasakiya, so if you are looking for a hole in the ground, check it out. Rates are also inexpensive.
Luggage storage near Otaru Station
Exit Otaru Station and go to the front left, and you will find a luggage storage and bicycle rental store called “Kitarin”.

You can have your luggage stored for 400 yen per piece.
Luggage storage is also free if you use a rental bicycle, so if you plan to sightsee in the area, it is a good deal to have your luggage stored for the price of a rental bicycle.

Coin-operated lockers at JR Otaru Station are easy to use because the locations are close to the ticket gates.
Otaru is a city with many hills, so if you have large luggage, it will make it that much more difficult.
