Coin Lockers and Luggage Storage at New Chitose Airport Terminal Building

New Chitose Airport straddles Chitose City and Tomakomai City in Hokkaido, and is the third busiest airport among Japanese airports in terms of passenger volume after Tokyo International Airport (Haneda Airport) and Narita International Airport (Narita Airport), making it the gateway to the skies of Hokkaido.

The airport consists of a semi-circular domestic terminal and an international terminal on the west side.

The second floor of the domestic terminal houses stores selling souvenirs and other items, and the third floor has a dining area that takes advantage of Hokkaido’s rich culinary offerings.

The third floor has a character amusement facility and a chocolate factory.

On the fourth floor of the domestic terminal, there is a movie theater and a bathhouse, making the airport feel like a shopping mall, and you could spend hours there.

A total of 22 coin lockers in the New Chitose Airport terminal building

The New Chitose Airport Terminal Building is located from the 1st basement floor to the 4th floor and is as follows

There are 22 coin lockers in total: 2 on the 1st floor, 12 on the 2nd floor, 7 on the 3rd floor, and 1 on the 4th floor.

Notes on using coin lockers in the New Chitose Airport Terminal Building

Coin lockers in the New Chitose Airport Terminal Building can be used from 5:00 to 23:00 in the domestic terminal building and connecting facilities, and from 5:00 to 20:00 in the international terminal building.

All locations charge every 12 hours and the maximum period of availability is 72 hours. Please note that this is a short check-in period for an airport. If you need to check in your baggage for a longer period of time, use the baggage drop-off facility.

[1F-1] 1F North side, next to the convenience store in the domestic arrival lobby

Coin lockers are located next to the ANA, AIRDO, IBEX, and Peach arrival lobby convenience stores on the north side of the 1st floor.

• Small (300 yen per 12 hours): 28 pieces
• Small (long length) at ¥400 per 12 hours: 23 pieces
• Medium at 500 yen per 12 hours: 6 pieces
• Large (600 yen per 12 hours): 26 pieces
• Extra large at 700 yen per 12 hours: 3 pieces

Coin-operated lockers are located on the south side of the 1st floor next to the rice ball shops in the arrival lobbies of JAL, Skymark, FDA, Jetstar, and Spring Japan.

Coin-operated lockers are located next to Gate A, which is used for boarding Peach flights, on the northernmost side of the Domestic Departure Lobby on the 2nd floor.

• Medium at 500 yen per 12 hours: 21 pieces
• Large (600 yen per 12 hours): 4 pieces
• Extra large (700 yen per 12 hours): 3 pieces

There are also a total of three coin lockers next to the escalator in front of the ANA baggage counter between Gates B and C.

• Every 12 hours 400 yen small: 5 pieces
• Every 12 hours 400 yen small (long length): 4 pieces (all coins only)
• Medium ¥500 every 12 hours: 10 pieces
• Large ¥600 every 12 hours: 12 pieces (8 of which are coins only)

The coin lockers on the wall by the escalators to the third floor accept 1,000-yen bills and transportation system IC cards (except PiTaPa) in addition to coins.

If you do not have enough coins, use the coin exchange machines for 1,000-yen bills and 500-yen coins.

There are also two coin lockers next to the escalator in front of the JAL baggage counter between Gates C and D.

Only 100-yen coins are accepted as payment, but there is an exchange machine for 1,000-yen bills and 500-yen coins, so if you do not have coins, use the exchange machine.

[2F-4]Next to the entrance of the Air Terminal Hotel at the back of Gate E of the Domestic Departure Lobby on the 2nd floor.

There is also a coin locker next to the entrance of the “Air Terminal Hotel” between Gate E for Skymark and FDA boarding and Gate F for Jetstar Spring Japan boarding.

• Small (long and wide) at 400 yen per 12 hours: 58 pieces
• Medium at 500 yen per 12 hours: 25 pieces
• Large (600 yen per 12 hours): 16 pieces
• Extra large at 700 yen per 12 hours: 7 pieces

At the center of the domestic terminal building is “Center Plaza” with a large atrium.

Three coin lockers are located at the bottom of the escalator that extends from the Center Plaza to the third floor.

• Small 400 yen every 12 hours: 1 piece
• Small (long length): 12 piece (all in coins only)
• Large (600 yen per 12 hours): 13 piece (7 of which are coins only)
• Large (wide type): 11 piece (5 of which are coins only)

The one directly below the escalator accepts 1,000-yen bills and transportation system IC cards (except PiTaPa) in addition to coins, while the other coin lockers accept only 100-yen coins.

There is a machine attached to the escalator that exchanges 1,000-yen bills and 500-yen coins, so if you do not have enough change, use the money changer.

[2F-6] Next to the post office in Shopping World on the 2nd floor on the domestic flight side

There is a post office located in the Shopping World to the north. Coin-operated lockers are located next to the post office.

• Small (long and wide): 2 pieces at 400 yen per 12 hours
• Large (600 yen per 12 hours): 6 pieces

If you do not have coins, use the coin lockers located in front of the Sapporo Tokyu Department Store store on the domestic side of the shopping world on the 2nd floor of [2F-7], which will be introduced later.

Coin-operated lockers are also available in front of the concession stand of the Sapporo Tokyu Department Store, located almost in the center of Shopping World.

Coin-operated lockers are also located in front of Samantha Thavasa Sweets & Travel, which is located almost in the center of Shopping World.

Coin-operated lockers are also available next to the temporary baggage storage, delivery, and porter service, located a little south of the central shopping world.

• Small (long and wide): 2 pieces at 400 yen per 12 hours
• Large (600 yen per 12 hours): 6 pieces

Only 100-yen coins are accepted as payment. If you do not have coins, use the coin locker in front of Samantha Thavasa on the domestic side of the shopping world on the 2nd floor of [2F-8].

Coin lockers are also located at the border of the connecting corridor between Shopping World and the International Terminal Building.

• Medium: 7 pieces at 500 yen per 12 hours
• Large: 6 for 600 yen per 12 hour period
• 1 extra large locker at 700 yen per 12 hours
• 16 small refrigerated lockers at 400 yen per locker

There is also a small refrigerated locker here for 400 yen per use for the day of use. It is good for temporarily storing perishables and other items you have bought.

Only 100 yen coins are accepted as payment. If you do not have coins, use the coin-operated locker in front of Samantha Thavasa on the domestic side of the shopping world on the 2nd floor [2F-8] to exchange 1,000-yen bills and 500-yen coins.

Coin lockers are also available on the north side of the International Arrivals lobby on the 2nd floor of the International Terminal Building.

• Medium: 3 pieces at 500 yen per 12 hours
• Large: 4 pieces at 600 yen per 12 hours

There is another coin locker on the 2nd floor of the International Terminal Building in the International Arrivals lobby to the south.

Coin lockers are located in the passageway to the north restrooms of Gourmet World on the 3rd floor of the Domestic Terminal Building.

• Small (long and wide) at 400 yen per 12 hours: 15 (the top leftmost one is not available)

Only 100-yen coins are accepted as payment. If you don’t have coins, use the exchange machine for 1,000-yen bills and 500-yen coins located near the coin lockers on the south side of Gourmet World on the [3F-2] 3rd floor domestic flight side, which we will introduce next.

Coin lockers are also located at the base of the connecting walkway between the domestic and international terminal buildings.

• Large (600 yen per 12 hours): 2 pieces

Only 100-yen coins are accepted as payment. If you do not have coins, use the exchange machine for 1,000-yen bills and 500-yen coins located near the coin lockers on the south side of Gourmet World on the [3F-2] 3rd floor domestic flight side.

[3F-4] In the 3rd floor connecting facility corridor

The third floor of the connecting corridor between the domestic terminal building and the domestic terminal building is a liaison facility that houses a chocolate factory and other facilities. Coin-operated lockers are located in the passageway.

• Small (narrower): 7 pieces at 400 yen per 12 hours
• Large (600 yen per 12 hours): 2 pieces

Only 100-yen coins are accepted as payment. If you don’t have coins, you can use the machine near the coin lockers on the south side of Gourmet World on the domestic flight side on the 3rd floor of [3F-2], although it is a little far away.

Coin lockers are also available on the 3rd floor of the International Terminal Building.

• Large: 6 pieces of 600 yen per 12 hours

There is also a coin locker in front of counter B on the left.

Further behind Counter B are the additional Counters C and D.

Coin-operated lockers are also located in front of Counter C.

• Small: 3 pieces at 400 yen per 12 hours
• Medium: 2 pieces at 500 yen per 12 hours
• Large: 14 pieces at 600 yen per 12 hours

Only 100-yen coins are accepted as payment. If you don’t have coins, you can use the exchange machine for 1,000-yen bills and 500-yen coins next to Counter A on the north side of the international departure lobby on the 3rd floor of [i3F-(1)], although it is a little farther away.

Coin lockers are also located in front of Snowmix Sky Town on the 4th floor of the Domestic Terminal Building.

• 400 yen small (long length): 26 pieces (the top leftmost one and the bottom rightmost one are not available)

Payment is in 100-yen coins only. There are no exchange machines nearby, so please prepare coins in advance or use the exchange machines on other floors.

4 baggage storage locations

In addition to coin lockers, there are four other baggage storage, delivery, and porter services: one in the 1st floor domestic arrival lobby, one in the 2nd floor domestic side shopping world, one in the 2nd floor international arrival lobby (closed during our visit in December 2022), and one in the 3rd floor international departure lobby.

The storage period for coin lockers is only 3 days, so if you wish to leave your items longer than that, please use these lockers.

Lockers compatible with electronic transportation money are available at JR New Chitose Airport Station on the B1 floor.

Coin lockers are also available on the basement floor of the terminal building, next to the automatic ticket office of JR New Chitose Airport Station.

If coin lockers in the airport terminal building are not available, or if you want to pay with transportation-related electronic money, consider using these lockers.
