Nippori Station is served by the JR Yamanote, Keihin Tohoku and Joban Lines, and is also the arrival station for the Keisei Line Skyliner, which runs directly to Narita Airport.
It is a convenient station for transferring to major stations such as Tokyo, Shibuya and Shinjuku, or to Narita Airport for travel.
This page introduces the coin lockers at Nippori Station on the JR/Keisei Line/Toneri Liner, including their location, hours of use, how to use them, prices and hole-in-the-wall information, with photos.
Coin locker locations at Nippori Station
As of May 2019, there are four coin locker locations.
- Next to the JR Nippori Station cashier’s office (inside ticket gates)
- In front of the North ticket gate of JR Nippori Station (outside ticket gates)
- Keisei Line (inside the Keisei Line ticket gates)
- Next to Toneri Liner ticket gate (outside ticket gates)
I’ll start with JR coin lockers.
Coin lockers at JR Nippori Station
There are two coin lockers at JR Nippori Station: next to the JR Nippori Station cashier’s office (inside the ticket gates) and in front of the JR Nippori Station North ticket gate (outside the ticket gates).
As of May 2019, Nippori Station is under construction and the coin lockers in front of the Keisei Line (inside the JR ticket gates) have been moved to next to the payment office at the North ticket gate.

From the map of JR Nippori Station
The coin lockers next to the JR Nippori Station cashier (inside the ticket gates) are in green, and the coin lockers in front of the JR Nippori Station North ticket gate (outside the ticket gates) are in the locations circled by purple ◯.
Please note that there are no coin lockers in the light blue locations (in front of the Keisei Line and inside the JR ticket gates).
Construction at Nippori Station is scheduled to be completed in summer 2020.

▼When you get off at JR Nippori Station, you have to go up to the platform on the second floor to go through the ticket gates, no matter which line you use.

▼ There’s a coin locker to the right of the payment station at the north ticket gate.

The north ticket gate is the largest and most prominent ticket gate, so it is easy to find from all lines.
Prices and number of pieces are as follows
- Small: 13 pieces, 400 yen
- Medium: 12 pieces, 500 yen

- Medium: 49 cm high, 36 cm wide, 58 cm deep
- Large: height 87 cm, width 36 cm, depth 58 cm.
As a rough guide, the small is large enough for a Boston bag for one night, the medium for a carry-on to three-night size suitcase and the large for a suitcase for five to seven nights.
Please measure your luggage to be sure.
Hours of use are from the first JR train to the last train.
The fee is for taking it out before 1am, and after 1am there’s a charge of 400-700 yen every 24 hours.
The period of use is within three days, including the first day of use.
Note that on the fourth day, your belongings will be collected.
There are four steps to use.
- Put in your luggage and close the door → The red light will come on.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- Pay the fee
- Receive a receipt.
There are two payment methods
- Traffic IC cards such as Suica and PASMO
- Cash
When paying in cash, you can use 100 yen coins, 500 yen coins and 1,000 yen notes.
There are no exchange machines nearby, so prepare small change and 1,000 yen notes in advance.
Please note that you cannot use cash in combination with a transport IC card.
To unlock the locker, use the following methods.
| How to pay for a locker | How to open your locker |
|---|---|
| Traffic IC cards | Traffic IC cards |
| Cash | PIN entered on receipt |
Never lose the transport C-card or receipt used for payment until you receive your luggage!

Instructions on how to use the system and the touch panel are available in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean.
We visited on Monday and Sunday lunchtime and it was mostly in use.
There were only a few of the largest 700 yen lockers available.
If you want to use the lockers here, it would be better to come early in the morning.
Coin-operated lockers in front of the north ticket gate of JR Nippori Station (outside the ticket gates)
They are right in front of the north ticket gate.

Prices and quantities are as follows.
- Small: 14 pieces, 400 yen
- Medium: 12 pieces, 500 yen
- Large: 12 pieces, 700 yen

The size, hours of use, method of use and payment are the same as for the ‘coin-operated lockers next to the JR Nippori Station payment office (inside the ticket gates)’.
Here, too, all but the largest lockers were almost fully occupied.
These lockers are located outside the ticket gates and are also available to people who do not use the station, so they are probably the most competitive.
Keisei Line (inside the Keisei Line ticket gates) coin-operated lockers
▼These are located between the JR Line transfer gates and the south ticket gate, on the side of the platform for general trains only.

Map of the premises of Nippori Station on the Keisei Line.
▼ Between the certificate photo and the ATM, I found a locker.

Prices and quantities are as follows.
- Small: 7 pieces, 300 yen
- Medium: 6 pieces, 500 yen
- Large: 6 pieces, 700 yen
The size, hours of use, method of use and payment method are the same as for ‘Coin lockers next to the JR Nippori Station check-in counter (inside the ticket gates)’.
This is a recommended place if you use the Keisei Line, as it is more empty than JR.
If the size is small, you’ll appreciate the fact that it’s 100 yen cheaper than other lockers.
Next to Toneri Liner ticket gate (outside ticket gates)
From the JR North ticket gate or the Keisei Line North ticket gate, coin-operated lockers are located on the third floor up and two floors down.

Nippori Station Toner Liner premises map
It’s a bit confusing, so I’ll explain the location with photos.
▼Take the escalator to the third floor, which is located outside the North ticket gate, turn right and go straight ahead.

▼As soon as you reach the third floor, take the lift or stairs in front of you down to the second floor.

▼Continue straight ahead along this road.

▼ After a short while, you will find coin lockers next to the 2nd floor turnstiles.

The period of use is within three days, including the day of commencement of use; please note that your belongings will be collected on the fourth day.
How to use.
- Put your luggage in and close the door
- Insert a 100 yen coin for the indicated fee (400-700 yen)
- Turn the key to the left and pull it out
Keep the key in a safe place.
Only 100 yen coins are accepted as payment.
Incidentally, there were no money changers near the coin lockers.
If you need to exchange money, you have to buy a ticket or buy something at a mini-stop and have it exchanged.
It would be smoother if you have 100 yen coins ready in advance.
There are instructions in Japanese and English on how to use the lockers.
There are a large number of small size lockers, so this is a good place to leave small luggage.
There are only two large lockers, so if you want to leave large luggage, the lockers on the JR or Keisei lines are more likely to be available.
Summary of coin lockers near Nippori Station

If you’re using JR, it’s the most convenient and easy-to-find location.
JR Nippori Station, in front of the north ticket gate (outside ticket gates)
Cash and transport IC cards accepted. There are not many spaces available here either, so morning use is recommended.
You can use it without going through the ticket gates.
Keisei Line (inside Keisei Line ticket gates)
Cash and transport IC cards are accepted.
There are more lockers available, probably because you have to pass through the Keisei Line ticket gates to use them.
Small lockers are 100 yen cheaper than other lockers, so if you want to save money, this is the place to go!
Next to the Toneri Liner ticket gates (outside the ticket gates)
Cash only (100 yen coins), no currency exchange nearby.
Located a little further away than other lockers, but convenient if you use the Toneri Liner.
If the size is small, there are many spaces available and it is the best place to go.
Finally

Walking around Nippori Station, you will notice that there are many hills and stairs.
As the area is crowded with tourists and many shops are cozy, it is difficult to move around with suitcases or large luggage, so I thought it would be convenient if I could leave my luggage at Nippori Station.
Around the station, there are shopping and sightseeing spots such as Nippori Textile Town, Yanaka Ginza, Yuyake Dandan and Nezu Shrine, so it is a place where you can enjoy yourself even outside of transit.
Please use the coin lockers and enjoy shopping for fabric products in the textile town and eating and taking photos at the sightseeing spots!
